What Men Do With Rose Petals

rainbow rose petals

If your minds are producing images of picnic blankets cast with romantic rose petals , or exotically perfumed hot tubs on which armadas of rose petals float then you are obviously a romantic at heart but I’m sorry you’ll have to think again.

Men don’t think of rose petals as romantic inspirations they think of rose petals and see dollar signs.

These psychedelic creations are real roses believe it or not ,obviously they did not achieve this tie dye look by themselves they are the brain fart of Peter Van de Werken, who owns a flower company in southern Holland. These multi colored petals have taken on their Josephs coat appearance via a procedure known as stem-dying, which means that the roses are placed into baths of water to which dye has been added , and the petals absorb the dye as it is sucked into the stems

What is different about this technique is that the rose stems have been split into several sections and each section was then placed into a different colored dye lot and allowed to drink its fill .

naturally occurring tie dye rose petals

Rosa Variegata di Bologna one of the most stunning of all the old Bourbon climbing roses, just one of the many rose trees that bear far more naturally occurring tie dye rose petals than the rainbow petals seen above , Variegata di Bolognawas was originally bred in Italy by Bonfiglioli & Son in 1909. It is considered to be the best pink variegated climber in its class. If you were asked which rose petals you preferred most which would you pick there is no contest in my mind

What’s the general reaction to these tie dye roses and their rainbow rose petals
Some Comments from around the web

“Ugh. No thanks. They might as well be made of plastic.”
by: Natalia
“We used to do this with carnations and food coloring when I was a kid. I’m surprised it took so long for this idea to go commercial”.
by: Jane
“These are truly horrible – like some gruesome cabbage patch doll flower.”
by:Carol
Those look hideous to me. I wouldn’t buy them at any price!

“Where can I order this beautiful rose??
I cannot find a supplier….”

It appears that People either love them, or hate these roses with their multi colored petals .

There simply is no middle ground with their freakishly colored petals in shades of blue, purple, green orange, pink, and yellow. Resembling an explosion in a paint factory.

However that is not to say that no where liked them on the contrary they became a huge hit in China and Japan.

How Much Are Rainbow Rose Petals?

An example I found on the , 5 rainbow roses combined within a bouquet of general greenery starts at around $55, and two dozen rainbow roses can cost as much as $345.

Now, if you are going to splash out and spend a small fortune on roses with rainbow petals , you may as well go the whole hog and purchase the freeze-dried rainbow roses for only a hundred dollars more a version that can keep for months if not years under some conditions . Freeze-dried rainbow roses are also shipped from the Netherlands

More Revolting Rose Petals From the Netherlands

luminous rose petals

Well if you weren’t much enamored by the rainbow petals I think you’ll take even less of a shine to roses that have petals that actually glow in the dark.
A Dutch company in AMSTERDAM began selling “Glowing Flowers” cut flowers that glow-in-the-dark usually roses and chrysanthemums

The rose petals appear white in regular light but will produce an eerie greenish glow for several hours when left in a darkened room

The petals have been sprayed with a harmless invisible chemical The company that came up with this brainchild said referring to the trend for wearing copious amounts of jewelry started by rap musicians
“The market needs fresh ideas and innovation, and Glowing Flowers fit into the ‘bling bling’ trend,”
“The expectation is that the light-giving products will be primarily well-received in southern and eastern Europe,” the company said

These bilious snot green green glow in the dark rose petals are the invention of another dutch man Frank de Koning, who runs his own flower company, As you may of guessed they are not my cup of tea at all.

The first batches that were sold at auction at FloraHolland’s headquarters in the Dutch town of Naaldwijk. roses went for $2.93 per flower, about 50 percent more than normal roses bearing non glow in the dark petals .

I Hate Stephen Singer and His 24 karat Gold Dipped Rose Petals
gold dipped rose petals

Did Stephen Singer never hear the consensus of opinion concerning gilding lilies or in his case rose petals after all its only been around for about 500 years “Steven Singer has created the perfect gift… a real long stem rose dipped in 24 karat pure gold.”

To gild a lily or any other flower in my opinion whether it be a roses petals or a dandelions its a crime ,of extreme poor taste the term to gild a lily means to apply unnecessary ornament—to over embellish to alter the already perfect .
The saying “To gild a lily ” the origins lie in Shakespeare’s King John, (1595)

“Therefore, to be possess’d with double pomp,
To guard a title that was rich before,
To gild refined gold, to paint the lily,
To throw a perfume on the violet,
To smooth the ice, or add another hue
Unto the rainbow, or with taper-light
To seek the beauteous eye of heaven to garnish,
Is wasteful and ridiculous excess.”

“To gild refined gold, to paint the lily”
To gild means to cover something with a thin layer of gold obviously to add gold to gold to improve its beauty would be an act of stupidity . “Gild the lily” doesn’t appear in the original quotation.
The term “paint the lily” was used in the 16th century, with the same a connotations that we now apply to “gild the lily”.
The two versions co-existed for a period of time, but “paint the lily” is now hardly ever heard.

Having been the the recipient of one of these a couple of valentines days a ago I have to say I appreciate the sentiment in which it was given of course make no mistake about that, but the quality and beauty of the item did not come close to the undefiled beauty of natural rose petals. Even on Stephen Singers own website the reviews are mixed one lady calls the gold dipped rose a hideous gift several more wondered what on earth had been the thought on their spouses mind when they picked out such a present others seemed to blame Howard stern for the low quality of the the gilded rose as many of their husbands as did mine heard about the 24kt gold rose on serius radio during commercials on the Howard stern show I guess the association was low quality tacky host and show, low quality tacky gifts, not sure one actually follows the other but personally not being a Stern fan I can see where their coming from.
printed rose petals

Another crime against Rose petals using them as mini billboards or advertising hoardings this in my opinion is just too low rent . I can not imagine any bride wanting to walk on petals printed with her own face or name or have them tossed as the bridal throw. I just can’t see the attraction. The casting of rose petals at weddings is definitely a romantic and eye catchingly elegant and beautiful symbol of love ,a refined and dignified finishing touch for any wedding . But printing on the rose petals just steals all of that away.

Purple Blue and even Black Rose Petals

Petals in such colors a black purple and blue I guess these were the for runner of the rainbow petals above. The flower industry has been artificially coloring rose petals blue for some time dating back as far as the Victorian era and their symbolism of rose colors in some cultures, blue roses mean mystery, or gaining the impossible. Some believe blue rose petals can grant the owner of them youth or even fulfill wishes.
The Chinese believe blue rose petals signify hope against unattainable love in the west they have a slightly different significance Blue roses signifying ” unattainable or unrequited love ” or a quest for the impossible florists dye millions of petals blue and make sales all over the world,

blue dyed rose petals

I have to confess a passion for blue flowers even the dyed ones ,But even I draw the line at spending the equivalent of what would be millions of US dollars in the pursuit of genetically altering the color of a rose to blue just what is the point I wouldn’t care this Japanese gene manipulated rose looks a lot more lavender than true blue not even as pretty as the cheaply dyed blue rose petals that form part of this stunning wedding bouquet

After thirteen years of joint research between an Australian company Florigene, and Japanese company Suntory, and at the cost of a staggering 31.66800 million U.S. dollars a blue rose was created in 2004 using genetic engineering.
The petals are genetically modified and have been implanted with a gene that simulates the synthesis of the naturally occurring blue pigment found in pansies. The world’s first genetically

not so blue in my opinion rose petals

altered blue roses were created in a laboratory more than four years ago, but further research still has to be done before they are made publicly available and safe to grow in your back yard

Following the cultivation of test batches in the United States the company believes it will be ready to sell them soon and aims to open up a global market for blue rose blossoms worth an estimated 30 billion yen.(316.68 million U.S. dollars)
Well one thing I know for sure I won’t be buying any rose bushes with gene altered rose petals to take pride of place in my garden
